A video of sadhus shared with the false claim that they are child kidnappers who have been caught in Delhi. The video is originally from Dhar, Madhya Pradesh, and the sadhus were beaten over suspicion of being child-lifters.
A video is getting viral on social media in which a street vendor was apparently seen urinating in a mug and pouring it into the water available at the handcart with the claim that a Muslim handcart seller selling food items has been caught mixing his urine in drinking water.
A Facebook user shares a post with a claim that "First, he urinated in the jug, and then he poured half of the into the drinking water and threw the other half so that the customer doesn't even know. People who are fond of eating and drinking outside, what will you do about these jihadis".
The same post is also widely shared on Twitter with the same claim.
In our investigation, we found that the viral claim is misleading. We found that the accused is not from the Muslim community.
After doing research on google using related keywords, we found a news report of Guwahati Plus published on 19 August that carried a screengrab of the viral video, the article titled reads, "Guwahati: Street Food Hawker Picked Up By Police For Allegedly Urinating On Utensils".
We also found a report of Times8 published on 20 August, as per the article the incident took place in Guwahati in Assam. The report identifies the street vendor as Akrul Sahini (60), a resident of the Bhootnath area who was arrested for allegedly mixing his urine with water that is used for washing dishes in the roadside stall.
The Guwahati police took cognizance of the matter after the video was brought to their notice. The accused was arrested by Bharalumukh police.
As per the investigation, the accused is not from the Muslim community.
In conclusion, a viral video of a street vendor allegedly mixing urine with water was used to falsely claim that he is from the Muslim community. We found that the street vendor is Akrul Sahini, a Hindu, not Muslim.
